The Painter Creek area is on the Alaskan Peninsula, approximately 90 miles south and east of the town of King Salmon, Alaska and about 400 miles southwest of Anchorage.

Painter Creek Lodge itself enjoys wonderful isolation.  There are no other structures within miles and the lodge overlooks the three million acre Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife Refuge.

The lodge sits on a forested bench that is elevated above the Painter Creek and King Salmon River drainage.  The views extend for miles, including the snowy peaks and glaciers of the Aleutian Range just to the east.

The water draining from these volcanic mountains forms the streams that provide the pathways for the amazing salmon runs that draw anglers from around the world.
This photo gives you a sense of the incredible scenery surrounding the lodge.  The lodge is the building just visible in the center of this photo:

In addition to the legendary salmon and other game fish runs, the refuge is home to thriving populations of Alaskan brown (grizzly) bears, moose, caribou, wolves, lynx, as well as countless species of birds and waterfowl.  The nearby salt waters of Bristol Bay and the Pacific Ocean host harbor seals, sea otters, Stellar sea lions, and gray whales.

This magnificent wilderness leaves an indelible impression on anyone who visits Painter Creek.  Anglers share the streams with a staggering abundance of wildlife that revolves around the annual salmon migrations and the comfort of the lodge is a welcome outpost in a land that is almost unchanged since the last Ice Age.

This is, quite simply, a location like no other in the world.
